Review | Benefit That Gal Brightening Face Primer

This is the post that Lauren posted on her blog when we did a Guest Post Swap, but I thought I would post it on my blog too!

With it being a big year for London, many brands have branched out, and re-packaged products to London themes- Benefit is so exception.

Packaging

Instead of the usual pink and white packaging, it is a scene of London. You can make out Big Ben, The London Eye and Tower Bridge! ! The box is unusual, in the shape of a hexagon, whereas the actual product is your average tube!
I am some what disappointed in the actual product packaging, as I think it could be a little snazzier instead of a white bottle, but that has no affect on the product itself!

The quotes on the packaging are really sweet. It says "let the pretty games begin!" on the top, and then on either side, it says "London's calling... smooth on a happy face" and "brightening primer of champions."

You can see from the pictures above, when you remove the lid, there are lots of little holes, that when you twist the bottom, the product comes out of.

The Product

The product itself is a light baby pink with subtle shimmer and smells like strawberries. Yes! It smells like strawberries! But I suppose Benefit products are renowned for having inviting smelling products!
After I moisturise, I apply this as a base for my foundation. Even after applying a small amount, I notice a significant change in the radiance of my skin. I look a little more awake! I then use a foundation on top. (Above, I am wearing Yves Saint Laurent Le Teint Touche Eclat Foundation). I really do feel that it does what it claims when it says 'brightening', my skin does look all around brighter and more glowy!

Longevity

Being a primer and all, you expect for your makeup to stay on longer when using it. I don't know whether my makeup stays on for any longer, perhaps an extra hour or two, but nothing significant. It also doesn't really prevent oiliness, but then, when a primer doesn't specify it is for oily skin, what can you expect!

Overall

Overall, I really like this primer, and the way it makes my skin look. I really enjoy using it and will defiantly continue to do so!

Review: Sleek Brow Kit in Dark

Filling in my brows has always been something that I have shied away from a little. After watching Desperate Scousewives, I defiantly didn't want to be left with a scousebrow at the end!! A few months ago, I began filling them in with the matte brow shade in Benefits Big Beautiful Eyes and that was fine for a while, but I had always wanted something that was more suited to eyebrows. (i.e Sleek Brow Kit of Benefit Brow Zings).

With Benefit Brow Zings being a little more on the pricey side, I opted for the Sleek Brow Kit.

This kit looks almost identical to Benefit Brow Zings- the only real difference being Benefit cater for three shades; light/medium/dark whereas Sleek only have two, light/dark.

As the name would suggest, the packaging is very 'sleek' with sturdy black packaging it is the sort of product that you are happy to have displayed on your dressing table.

As you can see from the pictures above, the kit contains a wax and a powder, both to perfect your brows.

Instructions

Use the pigmented wax to define and shape the brows using the angled brush. Then, set the colour with setting powder using the blending brush.

Personally, I don't use the brushes in the kit, I like to use my Ecotools Angled Brush to apply both the wax and the powder, and I find that works really well for me.

Pigmentation

The wax is really pigmented. You only need to dab the brush very lightly in the wax, and you have enough to fill in over half your brow. The powder is just as good, but I find that it is a tiny bit lighter than the wax, so you cant see it, but it does set the wax, and gives the brows a more natural than waxy look.

You can see, that you still keep your natural shape, and they don't look like they are 'drawn on'.

I really like the the way my brows look, and I feel as though my makeup feels complete with my brows filled in. It is a little dramatic for just being around the house, but if I am going out, I will defiantly be filling them in!

Price

This kit is now priced at £8.49. It used to be £7.99, but I think I can live with the extra 50p! It is reasonably priced when compared to the like of Brow Zings, which is £22.50; and I have used Brow Zings before, and there really isn't much of a difference!

Have you tried the Sleek Brow Kit?

Being a beauty obsessive, leads me to browsing a lot of websites, looking for new products and great deals.

Review: Benefit Creaseless Cream Eyeshadow in Birthday Suit

If you have read my blog for a while, you may have noticed that I am a big fan of cream eyeshadows. And seeing as every man and his dog (including me) are doing reviews on the Maybelline Colour Tattoo Gel/Cream Eyeshadows, I thought I'd talk a little bit about other cream shadows that are on the market.

Now, I'm not trying to persuade you away from the Maybelline Colour Tattoo's, as they are incredible value, and these ones are considerably more expensive, but I will do a review never the less!

So the products is the Benefit Creaseless Cream Eyeshadow in Birthday Suit.

As you can see, the packaging is very similar- glass bottom with the black lid.

I've had this eyeshadow for nearly a year now, and I still have at least a quarter left, and I used to wear it every single day!

On the Benefit website, the shade is described as a 'Brushed Crome' in my eyes, in some light it looks like a dark gold, and in some light it looks like a very light bronze. Like with all eyeshadows, they look different to and on other people.

You can see the colour by the swatch.

The consistency of these are a lot creamier than the Maybelline ones. They are softer on the fingers, and easier to blend.

Again, creaseless wise, both are as good as each other, they really don't budge at all! Even if you have oily lids!

The only plus side to these ones, are that they are easier to blend, and they have more selection of colours that are more suited for every day wear.

Have you tried either of them? Which did you prefer?

March Favourites

I say this every favourites post, but guess what, I'm gunna say it again- I can't believe how fast this month has gone by! I seems only a few weeks ago that it was February half term, and now its Easter half term! How time flies!

So here are the products I've been loving this month:

1. CLEARASIL PERFECTA WASH- Oh god, where to I start with this? It is just, amazing.Theirs no point messing around, it is the best face wash I have ever used! I have oily skin, and some face washes break me out really easily, but this is just perfect! I have also defiantly noticed a difference in the amount of spots I'm getting too! I am using the fruit extracts wash.
RRP: The mechanism is £12.99 (for a set including a wash) and refills are £4.99

2. BENEFIT B-RIGHT ITS POTENT EYE CREAM- In this monthly favourites, I have 3 products from the Benefit B-right range, quite frankly, because they are some of the best products I have ever used! Before I got this set, I had only really dabbled in eye cream, and I suppose I don't really need one now, but theres no harm in it! It has reduced my under eye bags by miles, and I find I barley have to use concealer under my eyes- what else could a girl ask for?!
RRP: £10 for the minis set, or original size- £23.50

3. BENEFIT B-RIGHT TOTAL MOISTURE FACIAL CREAM- Me and my friend got a sample of this some time last year, and when I finished it, I was gutted and was determined to get the proper size of it. In the end, I couldn't really justify spending that amount of money on a face cream (one day...) so I'll be re-purchasing this set in the near future! But back to the product- it is the creamiest, thickest, most lovely moisturiser in the world. And the smell is divine, as with all the range. It leaves my skin so soft, and its not lying when it says it says it brightens your skin!
RRP: £10 for the minis set, or original size- £26.50

4. BENEFIT B-RIGHT TRIPLE PERFORMING FACIAL EMULSION  SPF 15 PA++- This is the last one, I promise! Again, superb. This is a day moisturiser, and is oil free. It is the perfect base for makeup, as it doesn't leave skin with that greasy feel that some moisturisers do. All I'm waiting for now, is for Benefit to release a fragrance with the scent of this skincare line!

5. MAYBELLINE COLOUR TATTOO GEL CREAM EYESHADOW- I've done a review of this, so I wont bang on too much about it, but I have been wearing this nearly every day for the past week, and even in the scorching weather that the UK has received, it didn't budge at all! The colour is gorgeous and I have been getting compliments gallor! I cant wait to get some more shades!
RRP: £4.99

6. SOAP & GLORY HAND FOOD- I don't suffer with extremely bad dry hands, but they do sometimes feel rather malnourished, so I use a hand cream every night to top up on moisture. I love everything about this, the packaging, the smell, and the amazing product itself! Dry hands have now been banished!
RRP: £5

7. LIZ EARL CLEANSE AND POLISH HOT CLOTH CLEANSER- There's not many products that I re-purchase, as I like to try new things, but at late, I have been finding products that are becoming my 'holy grail' products! This being one of them! I've been back using this again for about a month, and my skin is really thanking me for it! It is so creamy and damn right brilliant! I recommend this to everyone, as it suits all skin types, and it just does wonders for your skin!
RRP: £13.50

8. TIGI ROCKAHOLIC DIRTY SECRETS DRY CONDITIONER: I found this at TKMaxx for a reduced price, and it is amazing! I find myself hardly ever using hair straighteners any more, so I just use this to create a sleek, shiny look. Unlike dry shampoo's it doesn't leave a white residue, it is just a clear spray. And although this sounds weird, it smells a lot better than normal sprays, as you would expect with Tigi!
RRP: £11.25 (£3 in TKMaxx)!

What are your favourites this month?

London HAUL!!

I have a huge haul! Oh dear, I really have given my credit card a walloping this week! But I expect most people will enjoy seeing what I have brought! I know I enjoy reading them!

So, on day 1, I went shopping in Guildford, and got lots of goodies!

I'm not really going to do a review on the products I've brought, I'll just show you what I've brought.

Disclaimer: I am not in any way trying to brag about what I have bought. I know I am very fortunate and get lots of opportunities, but I hope you enjoy it!

L-R

So, first, I repurchased another Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser. We went into the independent Liz Earle shop, and the experience was lovely! We were very warmly welcomed, and were offered drinks! I also got some Deep Cleansing Mask Sponges, to remove clay masks. Mum brought the Brightening Facial Masks, and when we paid, we both got a complimentary exfoliator!

Look how sweet the bag was!

Here is the Liz Earle shop in Guildford.

Cleanse and Polish: £13.50
Sponges: £1.60

So the next thing I brought is only something tiny, but my little sister had £1 left on a Claires voucher that she didn't want, so she gave it to me. I'd seen this ring a few weeks ago, so this spurred me on to buy it!

Usually £2.50, but I paid £1.50.

Next, is my MAC Mineralize Skin Finish Natural. The MAC counter I usually go to is so lovely. The woman who has served me on most of the times I have been is lovely, and so helpful. She matched me to a colour no problem.

My shade is Light Plus.

MAC Mineralize Skin Finish Natural: £20.50

Next, is my L'Oreal Telescopic Mascara. This is quite new, and in Superdrug, they had it half price as an introductory offer.

L'Oreal Telescopic Mascara: Usually £10.99, but I got it for £5.99.

The next thing is the new Wake Me Up Rimmel Foundation. This foundation is meant to give you a dewy glow, and wake up tired skin. I sampled this, and really liked it, as my preferred finish is dewy.

Wake Me Up Foundation usually £8.99, I got it for £5.99.

And the last thing is only something small, its a stripey stretchy skirt, I haven't got a separate picture, as it is quite self explanatory, but I wear my black and purple floral H&M stretchy skirt a lot, and stripes and 'sailor' themes are big at the moment so I thought, why not?!

Skirt: £3.99 from H&M.

So that was my Guildford haul, and as if that wasn't enough to take in, I have more! Yes, more! But this is from the time I spent in London.

So I'll got L-R like last time.

Firstly, is a Lush product. I went to my  favourite Lush store, ever! Its the one in Covent Garden, its huge and everyone is so friendly! But I only got one product, it was the ballistic in the Valentines Day line, which I wanted to try, as it will be discontinued soon! And now, I wish I had brought the Magic Mushroom Bubble Bar, but Ho-Hum! Anyway, its the Leap Frog (also known as the Frog Prince, but as this year is a leap year...) I'll be doing a post when I use it!

I wont write about the scent etc, as I will be doing a separate post about it, but it really is adorable!

Limited Edition: £2.75

Next, is only a small thing, but I have started to collect Barry M Nail Paints. I absolutely love them. They are defiantly my favourite brand on nail varnish. I know I speak about brands like OPI, but honestly, although OPI do a larger spectrum of colours, Barry M's formula matches OPI.
The shade I got is Mint Green.

Barry M Nail Paint: £2.99

Next, was a gift from my dad. We were walking down Regent Street, and me being me, was on the look out for beauty related streets. I looked down, into a street that is famous, but for some unknown reason, I had never ventured down there, and neither had my mum for a fair few years. But I looked down Carnaby Street (maybe look for an upcoming post about the shops?!) and to my absolute delight, I saw a Benefit shop! Yay! I'd never been in an actual shop until then, and Benefit being one of my favourite brands, I steamed off into it, to find myself in utter beauty heaven!

I was merly browsing the skin care section, I had heard good things, and also sampled for myself the Total Moisture Cream in the B-Right range, and came across the mini B-Right set, which I had before hand encountered on a shopping spree with my best friend. For £10 it is an absolute bargain, I thought about buying it, but, did the usual, 'oh, you might see something else you like more' so I ummed and ahed, and then decided against it.
As I walked out of the shop, my dad tapped me on the back, and presented me with a beautiful Benefit bag, containing the Benefit set I had been looking at!

The set  contains:
Foamingly Clean Facial Wash
Moisture Prep Toning Lotion
Total Moisture Facial Cream
It's Potent! Eye Cream
Triple Performing Facial Emulsion SPF 15 PA++
Refined Finish Facial Polish

For £10, its an absolute bargain! And the samples are rather generous! They are available online, in most department stores, and in Benefit stores.

Next, is something I have been in diar need of! Blotting papers. I have incredibly oily skin, and through the day, my face tends to get very shiny, so these are a good investment! You get 65 sheets in a pack.

They are from The Body Shop and are part of the Tea Tree range. I have had a bad experience with certain products in the range, but I love these! They effectively remove any excess oil.

Blotting Papers: £4.50

The next thing is something I am quite late on the bandwagon on, back in the summer, when there used to be a youtuber called MakeupMeansLove, who me and my best friend used to love! She showed some items in the Topshop beauty range. I have a love hate relationship with Topshop, sometimes I love their stuff, but other times, I think it's complete and utter bad quality tat. But I have been incredibly impressed by their makeup range, and cant wait to try more products from it!

I got one of the Creme Blusher, in the shade Flush. I have been doing a lot of research on creme blushers, and I was intending on buying a MAC one, but after seeing these in the Victoria Topshop, and remembering the good reviews, I knew this was the one for me! And for the fraction of the price of a MAC creme blusher.

The packaging is adorable!

The colour looks really bright and scary in the pan, but when applied it is a lovely natural 'flushed' pink. It is also really intensely pigmented.

Creme Blusher: £6

And last but not least, is a non beauty thing, but pretty never the less! In Covent Garden, there is the most adorable little shop called Sass and Belle that me and my mum came across sometime last year. It sells gorgeous unique little bits, and I always love looking around it!

I brought something I have been wanting for a while, and earring holder.

Isn't it beautiful?!

So that's it! This is probably the longest blog post ever, but I hope you enjoy it!

London was fabulous, and there will be lots of upcoming posts about it!

January Favourites!

So before I start the post, I must say, I don't think I've really brought anything new this month! I'm saving up for when me and my family go to London, and despite the shops calling my name, I stayed strong and restrained!

Some of the things are not beauty related, as, after all, who says monthly favourites only have to be about beauty products? Although, I do contradict myself a bit, as this is a beauty blog. Ah well....

1. PRIMARK PJS: My mum brought me these just after Christmas, as my other ones had a hole in the, ahem, bum area... But she brought me these to replace the other ones, and I have worn them, literally, every, single day. When their being washed, I don't know where I am! Their so soft and warm, and I put them on as soon as I get home! And actually, I'm wearing them as I speak!
RRP: £5

2. ACCESSORIZE GLOVES: Another gift from my mum. You must think I never buy anything for myself! But I love wearing neutral colours, and I wear a neutral scarf a lot of the time, and Mum saw these and pointed them out to me. They were in the sale, but they are the thickest, softest, warmest gloves I have ever had! I love them!
RRP: £3.60

3. OPI NAIL VARNISH in TEAL THE COWS COME HOME: This nail varnish came in the mini brights set that I got for my birthday, and I kid you not, I have not worn any other colour on my toes since. And my birthday was in October! The colour is so beautiful, and so unique, and I think I might buy the big size! I've worn it on my fingers a few times this month, and oh my, the colour is too die for!
RRP: Big size: £10.50

4. BENEFIT CREASELESS CREAM EYESHADOW in BIRTHDAY SUIT: I've had this eyeshadow since probably March last year, and I still have well over half of it left. I went through a stage of not wearing it very often, butt now, I wear it all the time! I have worn it during fitness and gym sessions, and honestly, it did not crease one bit! I do wear it with a primer though. But it really is amazing! I'm looking forward to trying the Maybelline Eye Creme Tattoo's though, I have my eye on 'Bold Gold' and 'Bad to the Bronze.'
RRP: £14

5. URBAN DECAY PRIMER POTION: Me and this primer have a love hate relationship. I got this small size of it with the Naked Palette, last October, and I liked it at first, but then I began to think it was running out. But now we're in January, and I have realised that it has lasted me this long, and this is every day use! But sometimes, it does tend to crease my shadow, but that is only if I am having an overly oily day.
RRP: Big size: £14.50

6. N07 FOUNDATION BRUSH: I found this in a Boots, in the sale back last August. It was a complete steal as they are usually about £11, and I paid £3. Recently, I've really been into using a brush to apply my foundation. And this brush is lovely. The bristles are really soft, and it leaves a really nice look to my face.
RRP: £11 (£3)

7. THE BODY SHOP SEAWEED CLARIFYING NIGHT TREATMENT: This night serum is specially for oily skin, and it is said to reduce the oiliness of your face, while hydrating it through the night. It is really nice and smooth to apply, and skin feels lovely and soft the morning after I use it. I have also noticed a difference in the clearness of my skin after using it.
RRP: £10

8. THE BODY SHOP TEA TREE OIL: Another item from the Body Shop. I use this oil on my blemishes, and depending on the size of it, it usually dries up over the course of the night. I really like it, and it has cleared my skin up no end!
RRP: £6

So theres my monthly favourites for January! I cant believe we're already 1 month into 2012!

What are your monthly favourites?

Summers on the way!

I know its only January, and I'm already thinking about Summer, but, c'mon, whats not to get excited about?! Hot weather, (well fingers crossed!) happy faces and and long days. I for one can't wait!

This little post is about some things I have my eye on for the summer time!

Clothes:
Not to sure whats up with the positioning of the picture!

You may have heard on the grape vine, that, once again, H&M are pairing with Versace to create a new line. I may do a seperate post about it. And looking on the website, I found these, and arnt they just adorable? Patterened denim hot pants? Yes please!

RRP: £24.99

Accessorise:

This summer, I will deffinatley be trying out nail wraps! They are such a cool idea, and they give off such a cool vibe. Nail Rock deffinatley has the best selection in my opinion, and there is a certain design I have my eye on!

You can just see them. The design is awsome!

Another trend I want to try, is feather extentions!

Here's a picture of Selena Gomez sporting the look. When worn subtley like this, I think they look amazing!

Makeup:

I know, I know, this next thing is way out of my league, but a girl can dream right?!

For a long while now, I've been eyeing up the Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation.

I think this foundation is perfect for the summer time. Now, I know that Chanel have literally just launched a new foundation- Chanel Perfection Lumiere, but this one, gives a more dewy, natural look, compared to a matt finish. You may prefer a matt finish, but personally, I think a dewy look is nicer for the summer.

The next product, is a beauty sensation. Not many people are not absolutley head over heals in love with it! YSL Touche Eclat is a staple in many womans (and now mens!) makeup bag!

I have said countless times before, how much I want this, and this summer, I really think I'm going to take the plunge and splash the cash! It will be perfect just to pop on, on those summer days, when any other makeup would seem to heavy.

As for eye shadows, I really like wearing creme eye shadow (although, I do wear them all year). They are light wieght, and a good quality one will stay on all day without creasing. Here are a few that are a nice summer shade.

The first one is MAC's Rubenesque. Its a beautiful gold colour, that will suit any skin tone.

Owning one myself, I know that Benefit's creasless cream eyeshadow's are superb quality, and really do last all day. I'm planning on buying this shade for summer:

The shade is Sippin n Dippin. And is a less gold, less shimmery version of Rubenesque.

And the last ones, I have just found out about from Fleur's blog, and they are the Maybelline Eye Tatoo Creme Eyeshadow, and although they are not currently available in the UK. As soon as they are, I will deffinatley be trying them out!

The two bronze colours are simply stunning, and will be making their way into my lipstick collection when their available!

And lastly I will mention a few lipsticks.

I really like coral and pink shades for the summer.

The first one is MAC Costa Chic.

This one is MAC Pink Parrot. (LE)

And also MAC Flamingo. (LE)

And for those who arnt for forking out on MAC lipsticks whenever you feel like it, as, lets be honest, unless your Kim Kardashian, who can?!

But these will be hitting the UK in March, and I cant wait to try them!

These are the Revlon Colour Burst Lip Butters. They come in a wide range of colours, and are supposed to be super moisturising. So perfect for lazy days in the garden!

I hope you enjoyed this post, that turned out to be a bit longer than I expected!

Let me know if you have tried any of the products I've mentioned!
